Cross River gubernatorial hopeful, Fidelis Ugbo appears undaunted by the state’s huge challenges but has openly declared that he considers the challenges as opportunities waiting to be exploited to the advantage of indigenes of the state when he gets the nod at the 2015 polls. Ugbo spoke yesterday, shortly after arriving Calabar from Abuja to commence what one supporter referred to as “the final lap to Peregrino House, Calabar”.

Ugbo who was visibly excited at the show of support from the airport, through IBB Way, Calabar, where he went to formally open his campaign office, to the grand reception at the Cultural Centre, Calabar, informed that as governor, he will concentrate more on issues that beg attention in the state alongside the development of viable agricultural, tourism, housing and gender equality policies.

“…we have not started campaigns, I only returned from Abuja where I went to drop my form and I could gather this crowd, am beginning to wonder what will happen from 30th of November, when I will formally start my campaign, so I believe Cross River State is ready for me and I want to tell Cross Riverians that I am also ready for Cross River State. I am ready and I’m prepared to serve the state”, he declared to ecstatic supporters.

The one time Finance Commissioner in the state drew the attention of the crowd of supporters that when he superintended over the finances of CRS, the state had no oil…“I was able to run this state satisfactorily. That I’m coming back at this time is not by mistake. This time around we are not having oil again and I am coming to use the same ingenuity I used in 1995-99 to prove to the world that Cross River State can do without oil.” he said.
