Court of Appeal Ends Fmr. Gov Ayade’s Senatorial Ambition, Affirms Jarigbe’s Election Victory

Posted on November 4, 2023 By Admin No Comments on Court of Appeal Ends Fmr. Gov Ayade’s Senatorial Ambition, Affirms Jarigbe’s Election Victory
L-R: Jarigbe, Ayade.

Nigeria’s Court of Appeal, sitting in Lagos, in the petition brought before it by the immediate past Cross River State governor, Ben Ayade, challenging the election of Jarigbe Agony Jarigbe, as duely elected to represent Cross River North Senatorial District in the senate, today upheld Jarigbe’s election.

The Appeal Court upheld Jarigbe’s February 25th 2023 National Assembly election victory, affirming too the judgement of the Election Petition Tribunal, which had earlier ruled on the petition. While the court dismissed the petition, the petitioner, Ayade, was fined N500, 000, for putting up a petition that lacked merit.

The judgement puts a death knell on Ayade’s ambition and to unseat Jarigbe and return to Nigeria’s senate.
