The scene of the accident at Ikot Ekpo
There is heavy vehicular and human traffic in and out of Calabar this morning as a tanker conveying kerosine out of the city overturned on the 8 Miles section of the very busy Murtala Muhammed highway, causing confusion for residents and commuters in the city. A combined team of security personnel is having a hard time controlling hundreds of persons eagerly scooping up free flowing kerosine.

Buckets, pails and anything that can store liquid is being employed by residents of Ikot Ekpo who are braving the elements and taking turns to scoop the kerosine oblivious of the danger their action portends.”You know say to buy kerosine for filling station na big problem, this one wey God don give us make we fetch am”, was how one resident of Ikot Ekpo described the situation to www.calitown.com. It is also brisk business for some residents who have overnight filled several cans with kerosine, perhaps after arriving the Pamol axis of the road, just after the tanker over turned.
